Back-lighting & Chiaroscuro

Back lighting is a picture of something with light illuminating the back of the object and no light coming round to the front of the object in the photo. The object usually becomes a silhouette. This is a picture of my sister with the sun behind her head.

Chiaroscuro is when light captures one side of the subject in a picture but not the other side creating a contrasting effect, Chiaroscuro is mainly taken in black and white. Chiaroscuro is used in many art forms as well as photography, but in photography it is used when creating art in a photo form. This is a picture of me.
